Remember when

Ever just sit and remember growing up? Not just the friends you hung out with or the vacations you took, but really think about how things have changed?

Remember when you only had one TV? Remember when you actually had to get up off the couch to "turn" the channel? Or adjust the "rabbit ears" on top of the TV.

Or, if you were lucky to have a 2nd tv (like us) it was a little black & white tv that you fought over with other siblings to watch. I remember having to go into the spare bedroom if I wanted to watch "Roller Derby". You had to share!

Remember when you had to actually walk into the kitchen to answer the phone? (and NOT knowing who was on the other in)?
If the call was for you, you grabbed a chair from the kitchen table & pulled it over to the wall to sit in while you talked to your girlfriend, and your parents timed you!! God forbid a parent tell a kid/teenage they have only 10 minutes to talk on the phone!!

Remember when cartoons only came on Saturday mornings? And you would promise to clean you room after "The Archie's", "Scooby Doo", and "American Bandstand"!!!

Remember actually walking to school, to the park to play, or to the store? I can remember riding my bike to the store to get an item or 2 for my mom. There were even times my aunt would call & I would ride my bike over to her house, get the money & list of items. Then ride my bike to the store & back to her house, drop off the items & then ride home. Can you imagine asking a teenager to ride a bike to the store! How embarrassing that would be for them.

And who could forget the Saturday afternoon matinee. My best friend & I would walk downtown, go to the record shop to look at the 45's. Then walk over to Foster Freeze for a taco & soda, and then around the corner to the movie theater. If we were lucky, there might be some cute boys there too. Ahhh, the good old days.

Cousin's - Part Two (my side of the family)

Ok, I'm just going to post pictures & keep this post short. As when I sit down infront of this stink'n blog it take's me over TWO hours to post. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll just let the pictures do the talking.
Having lunch at Sundance. Was a bit $$$, but sure was worth it. And no sign of Mr. Redford.
And to think we just met.

OK, now someone is going to be in trouble!!

The 13 yr old idolizes his racing cousins & try's to learn everything he can from them. So why Nana & Tata said "NO" you can't ride your cousins quad, he snuck out & did it anyways, as any 13 yr old would. LOL.

Ok, these 3 are only a couple months apart. I have a picture of them as babies I am going to have to hunt down & post side by side later. As the "little" ok, short one in the middle (I told her to stand a on bench) when she was a baby, she was ahhh....how do I say...."bigger" than the boys. Now you can hardly see her she's so tiny.

I thought I would just post a few pictures that make me smile. I hope they make you smile as well.
Ok, so this one is like "Ok Grandma, hurry & take my picture. I'm busy!!!

We just love her to pieces.

Elvis, the King of Rock & Roll

Do you know where you were on August 16, 1977? I sure do. I was at my babysitting job & watching ABC Channel 7 news out of Los Angeles when I heard that the King of Rock & Roll was dead. I was in shock!!! I called my mom right away, but she already knew of course.
I grew up on Elvis. My mom had all his records & she played them all the time.
Saturday was house cleaning day & my mom would wake me up with Elvis music blasting through the house. It was a must! Even when I got married, I would clean my house on saturday with Elvis music playing. Except I had cassette's & 8-tracks. LOL.

I can pretty much tell what period of time it was by a Elvis picture. This first picture in color I call his "Movie" period. Of course the black & white is the late 50's. (not my favorite music time, but I wasn't born yet either).
But the pictures of him in his black leather, now THAT is a different story. This was in 1968 during his "COMEBACK SPECIAL". I remember being glued to the TV. I also remember wishing I was sitting around that stage at the NBC studio's , which was probably only 300 miles from my house!!!

Then in 1970, the big screen!! "Elvis, that's the way it is" A documentary type movie.

There are just so many Elvis memories, that I can't even list. I know some of you are bored already & have stopped reading, but I can't quit without posting my all time favorite TV program...."Aloha from Hawaii". Now that was a TV performance!!
If you watched it, you will remember when he took off that white cape & threw it into the audience. I remember my mom & my aunt talking about that for days.

This man I will always remember, and I believe he would still to this day be as popular as he was in the 50's, 60's and 70's.
**for my mom & my girlfriend Phyllis in Tennessee.**

Cousins - Part One

The youngest cousins in the family. So dang cute of course I have to start off with their picture. And yes I have tons more.
I have been so busy the past few weeks enjoying my vacation. I have had several family members from out of state come & visit. I am floating on cloud 9.

This picture was a "remake" of a picture that I have in my family room that was taken about 15 years ago of these 3. It was cute then, just as it is now.

Here they all are hanging out & trying to be nice to each other. The newest member of the family is missing, but it's hard to get her in the picture, as she's usually napping or eating. So I took this one when she wasn't expecting it.

Bridal Vail Falls

A few more pictures from our trek out with the family.

Between a 17 yr old teenager & a uncle who like's to kid around with his niece's, I'm surprised no one ended up in the water. Could be due to the fact of all the people (witnesses) standing around as well. (I did get in the water with my youngest niece. And yes, that water was COLD)!!!

Grandma couldn't make the hike all the way to the falls, so she just enjoyed sitting on a bench along the pathway & watched all the people strolling by.

Another fun day. Sure wish they could of stayed longer.

Our day in Park City

It's been awhile since I've been to Park City. Ok, maybe years. In fact, I don't think I've been to Park City since before the Olympic's in 2002. How crazy is that? I'm pretty sure it was the last time my niece was here. So does that mean we only go to Park City when she's in town? I hope not.
We got up friday morning and headed up the mountain. We had to take 2 cars as 8 of us were making the trip. My parents, my mother in law, my sister in law & my 2 niece's & myself & the hubby. There was going to be 10 of us, but my daughter in law & granddaughter decided to stay home.

First stop of course is the alpine slide. If you haven't been up to the rides lately......like years....they have this new ride called the "Alpine Coaster". It is a BLAST! We all loved it. Heck, we wanted to turn in our Alpine slide tickets so we could ride the coaster again.

After waiting in a long line to ride the coaster, we went over to stand in an even longer line to ride the Alpine slide. First you have to ride the ski lift to the top. My little niece & husband were not to happy about riding this "chair" up the mountain.

(they are smiling cause they can still see the ground). I was telling my 8 yr old niece about how during the winter when people are on here with ski's and the chair stops, it's because someone trying to get off at the top with their ski's as crashed, but it won't happen to us because we just walk off. Well guess what? When we got to the top my niece jumps off before she should have & yes, they shut down the lift so she doesn't get hit by the chair, and we can get off as well. LOL.

After we road a few rides, we walked Main St & did some shopping.
My niece was looking for a western shirt & we went inside this one store & she found a blouse for $1,100.00 Yes, that is one thousand. She asked her uncle if he would buy it for her, but he declined.
What can I say. We had a blast. We got home around 5pm & were so worn out, that we all took a nap!!

August 2, 2010

In Laws are here.

What a great weekend we had. We walked, we ate, we laughed, we started reminiscing about the years that have gone by. We stayed up late at night & then got up early the next morning & did it all over again. We had a blast!!

What was funny about this picture, is we decided to go to dinner & I was sure they had never eaten at a "Red Robin", so when I brought it up, my little 8 yr old niece (going on 30) said "Red Robin.....mmmmmmmmmm". She starts singing the song. I said, well I guess we're not going there, since you have one of those back home, and they laughed & said "no, we we don't". I asked then why does she know the song??? I guess she saw a commercial back in South Carolina & never forgot it. LOL.

More pictures & stories to follow.
